Pakistani Association of Norway’s Honor Award to The MiRA Centres Director, Fakhra Salimi

The MiRA Centres Director Fakhra Salimi received the Pakistani Association of Norways Honor Award for her work to improve the quality of life and access to rights for minority women in Norway.

The award was given for her bridge-building work between Pakistan and Norwegian culture together with her efforts to promote Pakistani culture in Norway. In the award announcement, Salimi´s initiative to start The MiRA Centre and the equality work she has accomplished through this organization were specially mentioned as important reasons for her appointment.

Ossietzky award 2005

The following is an excerpt.

Norwegian PENs award for progressive contributions to freedom of speech, the Ossietzky Award, was given on Monday 19th December to Fakhra Salimi. This year’s award winner has lived in Norway since she was 20 years old – more than half her life. She has been a strong voice that has fought hard not to be identified as a victim, and has revealed to Norwegian society a diversity of experiences from the world of minority women, a world that until now the majority of people only superficially were aware of.

YS´s Equality Award for 1999

The following is an excerpt.

The MiRA Centres director Fakhra Salimi was today presented with the Professional Organizations Central Associations Equality Award for 1999. The award presentation is based on Salimis “active and fearless efforts” for women with refugee and immigrant backgrounds. The award will “stimulate increased efforts in the work to promoted equality between men and women and to give recognition to those who are involved in this type of work”.
