Culture and Identity
Individuals in todays culturally complex society often hold complex and compound identities. “Who am I?” and “Where do I call home?” are some of the questions we all ask ourselves at some point in our life. Through these questions we seek to define our personal identity, which has always been important for all cultures. In an increasingly more diverse world it has become even more difficult to find simple answers to these questions. This concerns, not least of all, minorities who, on the one side want to express their own cultural traditions while at the same time trying to assimilate into the larger community. This often results in opposing protest identities that can limit an individual’s development potential.
